We were up to 46 pages by this time and we published a piece by my absolute favourite writer on SM, Pat Califia (later to become Patrick). If there’s one thing we are proudest of, it’s publishing Patrick’s work and being his friend.
Issue 6 has photography by Holly Warburton. Having started the magazine with Grace Lau, we were always keen to get women involved with the imagery; so much more interesting than the endless pinup shots of girls in rubber dresses that men tend to produce.
There’s a 2-page feature on a couple called Talana Gamah and Ieish, who designed and adopted a total new identity and lifestyle in the fetish genre. We had not seen that done before and they did it really well. They were also superb costume designers, as you can see.
We were always worried about falling fowl of the UK’s strict censorship laws (no change there, then) and a solicitor who shared our editor’s house wrote a feature outlining the legal situation for us. He later went on to advise cabinet minsters and we haven’t heard of him for years, much to our regret.
Our Guidelines section was an essential listing of suppliers of all kinds of fetish gear, clubs around the world, publications, etc – all you need to be a fetishist. Before the internet, this was a vital and much valued part of Skin Two; we helped to change the world!
